TREK KILIMANJARO
During our Kili - trek, you will be walking gently and carefully to the summit of the highest peak in Africa. Porters carry all of your equipment, cooks and their staff prepare all of the meals, and our British, European and American leaders personally accompany you and show the way.
These photos were taken on
one of our recent trips,
where all members reached the top!

Our first day in Nairobi. In this photo, we are arranging bus transport to the mountain. We are careful to stay together and watch out for each other. Bill Weber |
The shuttle bus ride to the mountain. It takes about a day to reach Arusha, where we stay overnight in a hotel, then switch to a jeep. Bill Weber

A washed out road in Kenya, on our bus route. Things are falling apart in this country. Sometimes, we might have to switch vehicles when the road is closed, or a bridge is down, and we have to ford a river. Bill Weber |
Enjoying a herd of
water buffalo grazing along the trail. Our local guide carries a rifle, to protect
us from wild animals, and from local thieves. We are careful to watch out for each other, in case of potential
hazards.

Time to climb Kilimanjaro. Here is a team member on the trail at 14,000 feet. It gets steep in places, but is still easy. A porter is carrying the rucksack! Each day, at about 11:00 am, the fog and clouds roll in, and its time to put on the waterproof clothing. Edythe Hulet |
Our guides accompany
us to the summit and show the way. These local guides are very friendly; a nice addition
to the team.

A pleasant camp spot at 13,000 feet. We sleep in tents most of the time, and a cook prepares our meals. The huts are not too nice. Tents are clean, and private. Bill Weber |
Summit day, Stella Point, 19,000 feet, 7:45am. We are looking at the summit here. Its 45 minutes away. A little cold and breezy, but not bad. The walking was very easy and only a ski pole and hiking boots were necessary. Bill Weber |
Looking south from Stella Point. We are at the top of the Equator. Bill Weber

Standing on the Summit, 9:00am. All members, ages 23-63, reached the summit! Bill Weber |

The Ice Cap at the Summit is Melting Quickly D.L.Mazur

Sometimes we walk up the Western Breach. Its a great route! D.L.Mazur

When we trek the Western Breach, we camp inside the crater. Its a thrill, and certainly makes the summit day much shorter. D.L.Mazur

If you feel well enough, the hiking inside the crater is quite beautiful. This is the Reusch Crater, which is still quite warm and sulfuric.D.L.Mazur
Its time to fly away
home. A last view of
Kilimanjaro from the airplane. Our route followed the left hand side.
